Many people stop believing ads because they aren’t making enough to buy the goods advertised and realize they aren’t really needed for a happy life. That’s probably why people making $30,000 think they have enough to meet their needs. What do people making $50,000 - $100,000 think they need? Double! How can we make double? By working more hours and getting promoted.  

I believed that. I reveled in my success so much that I did more and more and more. I didn’t force myself to go home because I thought my best way to contribute to my family was to keep working. I thought that the best way to impress my boss was to complete a project tonight rather than tomorrow. I got very stressed out to the point of leaving my job at three different times in my career. That was not good for me, my boss, the company I worked for or my family.   

So every time the “official” day is done, truly leave it. Pull those fingers away from that keyboard, turn off your cell phone, and give undivided attention to a group of people who love you very much - your family and friends. When you begin to notice your spouse’s new haircut, really listen to your kids’ funny stories, and truly appreciate the effort your friends put into staying connected with you, you’ll realize that while this part is pretty much free…it’s priceless!
